This programme gives young people the opportunity to learn about Europe, the European Union and the progress of European integration. Students discuss their expectations and share their ideas with peers from other European Union countries. For the past fourteen years, GCHSS has thoroughly prepared its students for the Europe-wide EUROSCOLA competition and has had extremely positive results.

Participants from the 28 EU Member States are selected to experience the life of a Member of the European Parliament for one day. The experience takes place at the Parliament’s premises in Strasbourg, France.

The participating students take the floor in plenary and committee sessions to debate and vote on resolutions on current affairs, all the while practising their language skills and making friends with fellow students from across Europe.

Debates on topics related to the work of the European Union range from the Environment to Migration, Europe’s Future, Human Rights, Sustainable Development and Youth Employment. This year 24 GHCSS students will be chosen to go to Strasbourg together with a number of accompanying teachers.

This programme also offers the opportunity to visit other countries of the EU and participate in other projects which continue to widen one’s experience in EU policies. Applicants will be invited to take part in the MEP programme which is organised twice a year. Selected students would receive training in public speaking, resolution writing and lobbying. Preparation for these projects is school-based and also includes visits to EU agencies and offices.

Interested students have to apply on-line when submitting their application for the course they wish to follow at GCHSS. In November applicants will be required to sit for an examination which is held at school.
