What will I learn in Spanish?

Advanced level and Intermediate level Spanish aim at helping you to gain more depth in the knowledge of Spanish as a foreign language. This is done by focusing on advanced grammar aspects, enriching one’s vocabulary and learning idiomatic expressions. By the end of the course, you will understand lengthy articles as well as audio and video clips produced by native speakers. You will be able to write with ease, talk fluently and hold a conversation with a native speaker. You will also be tackling cultural texts about the 21 Spanish-speaking countries. At higher levels, unabridged literature works are analysed, encouraging reflection upon issues raised and their relevance to current times.

How will I benefit from studying Spanish?

Being able to understand and express oneself in at least one foreign language is an asset in today´s globalized world. In the case of Spanish, this is even more so considering that, after English, Mandarin Chinese, and Hindi, it is the fourth most widely spoken language in the world with nearly 550 million speakers (Ethnologue, 2022). At GCHSS, we do not only focus on the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) but also on intercultural issues and aim to develop critical, reflective thinking in our students through exposure to different contemporary texts including literary ones.
